Eleison is Greek for “have mercy.” Although we typically associate these words with desperation, the dictionary definition is actually “to treat with kindness and forgiveness.” This work is a beautiful, contemporary song without words, and the performer should mimic a soulful singer. It is both the privilege and responsibility of the player to infuse it with personal meaning.
